The FarmhouseOn an acre of land and completely independent but 0,5km to the ancient village of Soulomes, this 18th Century 150m2 stone house was restored in 2007 by a young architect friend James Mudge who stayed there for close to one year, to create a fully equipped, self-catering, furnished and comfortable space and at the same time retain the original form of the farmhouse. Authentic materials such as local oak, dressed stone, wooden dormers and windows found at antique sales and brocantes in the region. The major installations such as masonry, carpentry, electrics and plumbing were done using the exceptional skills of local artisans who were sympathetic to keeping it original but modern. The house is built on 3 levels on a steep slope and consists of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms/WC's and a study/library which can serve as a 4th bedroom. Each bedroom contains a large double bed (160cm) that can be split to form 2 single beds. An open plan kitchen and large 8 seater dining room table and sitting room face onto the large original working fireplace. An 80m2 outside terrace provides striking views over the surrounding countryside and spectacular sunsets. Campfenie is tranquil and beautiful and the many activities, walks, sport, culture and history, food and wine and interests in the surrounding country, villages and towns all combine to make this the perfect holiday destination. |
